Job Overview

Under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness, the Assistant Athletics Trainer provides student-athletes with initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED and other emergency care, injury rehabilitation, taping and bracing, and over the counter medicines.

As well, they maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury documentation for each student-athlete treated; adhere to the Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures and the NATA Code of Professional Conduct; and perform additional administrative duties as assigned.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness, the Assistant Athletics Trainer works closely with the team doctors.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree - preference for a Master's degree
  • Current NATABOC certification
  • Must meet criteria for certification as established by the NATA with respect to CEUs
  • Eligibility for District of Columbia Athletic Training Licensure
  • Ability to work confidently in a crisis or emergency situation and to demonstrate knowledge of safety practices
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
  • Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and insurability
  • Proficiency in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
  • Availability for work on weekends and evenings
